BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – K-9 “Bear” is a two year old German Shepard and the Cocoa Police Department’s newest member.

COCOAPOLICELOGO-200Bear and his partner, Officer Dan Rhoades, have been together for about two weeks.

Although Bear comes to us with some training, he won’t be used for patrol work until the pair complete approximately 80 hours of training with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Team.

The team will then be required to pass the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Canine Team Certification.

Bear has already shown his aptitude for police work and is going to be a great asset to the Cocoa Police Department and the citizens of Cocoa.

Bear was purchased with money donated by local residents and business leaders.
