BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY — The Palm Bay mayor and council appointed Terese Jones as the new city clerk.

She replaces longtime Clerk Alice Passmore who served the city for more than 42 years.

Jones began her career with the city in 1998 as an administrative secretary. She was appointed deputy city clerk in 2003 and has been serving in that capacity since.

Jones is a certified municipal clerk and is in the process of obtaining a Master Municipal Clerk certification through the Florida Association of City Clerks.

She is a member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, the Florida Association of City Clerks and the Brevard County City Clerk’s Association.

In her role as the city clerk Jones is responsible for supervising 3 staff members which provide secretarial and administrative support to the city council.

She will oversee the city-wide records management program and will serve as the custodian of the official records.

This includes preparing and maintaining records of council legislative actions and proceedings, preparing and processing enacting legislation, attesting execution of legal documents and ensuring publication of legal notices.

In addition to these clerical duties she will also process the council meeting agendas, prepare minutes of council’s business meetings, manage the recruitment and membership on city boards and committees and coordinate the regular municipal and special elections with the Brevard County Supervisor of Elections.
