6 Eastern Florida Titans Earn NJCAA Academic Honors

Six Eastern Florida State College student-athletes are included on the list of 2014-2015 NJCAA Division I Academic Student-Athlete Awards winners. (EFSC Image)

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Six Eastern Florida State College student-athletes are included on the list of 2014-2015 NJCAA Division I Academic Student-Athlete Awards winners.

Titans earning academic recognition, and the category, are:

Superior Academic Achievement, 3.80-3.99 Grade Point Average

– Ivan Magalhaes Santos, men’s soccer
– Lindsey Pugh, volleyball
– Josh Smith, baseball

Exemplary Academic Achievement: 3.60-3.79 GPA

– Landus Anderson, men’s basketball
– Gabby Jones, softball
– Alex Wilhelm, women’s basketball
*All six have graduated from Eastern Florida.

“What an accomplishment for these outstanding student-athletes,” EFSC Associate Vice President for Athletics and women’s soccer head coach Jeff Carr said. “It is a credit to the hard work in the classroom that allows them to excel and achieve these honors.

“I want to commend them for representing us on and off the field with academic excellence. I look forward to seeing them succeed at the next level be it in athletics or academics or both.”

This year saw a record 1,936 student-athletes from 324 NJCAA member colleges earn national academic honors.

During the 2014-15 academic year, the NJCAA saw 58,531 student-athletes compete on 3,461 teams in 28 different sports.

A record 3.31 percent of student-athletes qualified for an academic award which is only available to student-athletes who have accumulated at least 45 semester credit hours or 60 quarter credit hours with a minimum of a 3.60 grade-point average.
