BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Brevard County Parks & Recreation in conjunction with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Police Athletic League (BCSO PAL,) National Technical Association (NTA) and the Cocoa West Community are teaming up with Lowe’s Home Improvement to host a Beautification Day on Saturday, Aug. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Cocoa West Recreation Complex, 230 Burnett Road.
This community effort is in support of the STEM Tech Neighborhood Academy, a program created to excite at-risk students to try hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM,) as a safe after-school learning environment and crime prevention alternative.
STEM Tech’s objective is to attract youth away from the negative street environment and other activities of poor choice during unsupervised after-school hours (3 p.m. to 8 p.m.) STEM Tech activities include academic tutorial and reading, model rocketry, Lego-robotics, electronics, RIC models, computer maintenance, CAD and 3D printing, website design, resume writing and basic etiquette.
Lowes is graciously donating material and skilled labor to help beautify the Cocoa West Recreation Complex and Computer Lab.
Habitat for Humanity is donating much-needed assistance with manual labor. Waste Management is donating trash receptacles to help keep the facility clean and organized.
The community is invited to come out and help with this project, which will focus on the landscaping around the Cocoa West Recreation Complex. It will be a fun and exciting day, perfect for the whole family.
