Florida Tech Panthers Release 2015 Volleyball Schedule

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech head volleyball coach Amy O’Brien officially released the Crimson and Gray’s schedule for the 2015 season on Friday. FIT’s 30 game slate features 15 home contests at the Charles & Ruth Clemente Center.

“We are very excited about this upcoming season,” said O’Brien.

“We are looking forward to hosting the Panther Invitational the second weekend in September and playing on our home court. As always, it will be a battle against our conference teams throughout the season. Although we have a very challenging schedule ahead of us, we have an outstanding group of returners and several talented girls joining our program this fall.”

The Panthers kick off the 2015 campaign with two scrimmages against Eastern Florida State College and Webber International on Aug. 19 and 26.

FIT officially opens the season when it ventures north on I-95 to St. Augustine, Florida to compete in the Flagler Invitational on Sept. 4-5.

Following the Flagler Invitational, Florida Tech hosts its first regular season tournament since the 2009 season, the Panther Invitational on Sept. 11-12.

Participating in the event is host Florida Tech, Albany State, Columbus State, Lynn University, and Puerto Rico Mayaguez. On Friday, Sept. 11, the Panthers face Albany State and Columbus State, at 3 and 7 p.m. respectively, and Puerto Rico Mayaguez on Saturday at 3 p.m.

FIT opens its Sunshine State Conference slate on Sept. 18 with a road contest against new provisional league member Embry-Riddle, while the Panthers’ conference home opener is the following day against Rollins.

To close out the month of September, FIT has home matches against Nova Southeastern and Lynn on Sept. 25 and 26.

Florida Tech is set to spend much of October on the road, beginning with contests at Saint Leo on Oct. 2 and Eckerd on Oct. 3.

The Panthers face the No. 17 team in last season’s final American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II Coaches Poll, Florida Southern, on Oct. 6 and a couple days later FIT hosts the defending National Champions, the University of Tampa, on Oct. 10.

The Panthers embark for Carrollton, Georgia for the South Region Crossover Tournament on Oct. 16-17.

The Crossover, which for the first time is being played in the middle of the regular season, features teams from the SSC and Gulf South Conference. Seeding for the tournament is determined based on teams’ positions in the conference standings during the first half of the season.

Upon their return to Florida, the Panthers play three straight road matchups, including on Oct. 23 versus Palm Beach Atlantic, the No. 15 ranked squad in last season’s coaches poll.

This year the Crimson and Gray is trick-or-treating in South Florida with road matches against Lynn on Oct. 30 and Nova Southeastern on Oct. 31.

Closing out the season, the Panthers have five of their final six matches at home in Melbourne. FIT hosts Saint Leo, Eckerd and Florida Southern prior to heading over to Tampa for the Panthers’ final road game on Nov. 12. Florida Tech then completes the season with home matchups against Barry and Palm Beach Atlantic on Nov. 20 and 21.

This season the Southeast Regional Tournament will be held Dec. 4-6 and the NCAA Division II National Championships on Dec. 10-12 at the University of Tampa.
