Tampa Yankees Blank Brevard Manatees In Series Opener 2-0

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – Vicente Campos, Chaz Hebert and Alex Smith combined on a seven-hit shutout as the Tampa Yankees (12-11, 46-47 overall) defeated the Brevard County Manatees (10-12, 39-53 overall) 2-0 on Sunday night at Space Coast Stadium.

Campos (1-3, 8.04 ERA) tossed five shutout innings to earn the victory. He allowed just three hits and one walk. Campos struck out six. Hebert tossed three frames. He surrendered four hits and struck out two.

Alex Smith retired the side in order, including two strike outs, in the ninth to earn his eighth save of the season.

Tampa plated the only two runs of the game in the top of the fourth inning against Jorge Ortega.

Mike Ford led things off with a single to right field. Two batters later, Miguel Andujar doubled into the right field corner and advanced Ford to third. With Jake Skole batting, Rafael Neda couldn’t handle an Ortega pitch. Ford scored on the passed ball and Andujar advanced to third. Skole then singled back through the box and gave the Yankees a two-run advantage.

Ortega (8-6, 2.21 ERA) was hit with the loss. He gave up two runs on eight hits over six innings. He walked one and struck out four.

Trevor Seidenberger threw three shutout relief innings. He allowed just two hits and two walks. He fanned one.

Brevard County and Tampa will continue the series tomorrow night.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.

RHP Cy Sneed (1-1, 3.00 ERA) will toe the rubber for the Manatees. RHP Gabe Encinas (2-3, 3.23 ERA) will get the start for the Yankees.
