Florida’s Tight End Jake Mcgee Named John Mackey Award Semifinalist

GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA (GatorZone.com) – University of Florida redshirt senior Jake McGee was named a semifinalist for the 2015 John Mackey Award, the Friends of John Mackey announced on Monday morning.

Given to the most outstanding collegiate tight end, McGee is putting together a stellar season for the Florida Gators. Second on the team with 31 receptions, the Richmond, Va. native has accounted for 268 receiving yards during the 2015 campaign. McGee is also tied for first on the team with three receiving touchdowns.

The eight semifinalists were determined by confidential balloting of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee.

Finalists for the Mackey Award will be announced on November 24, 2015. The recipient will be announced on December 9, 2015 and presented live on December 10, 2015 at the Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show.

NFL Hall of Famer John Mackey is considered to be the best to have played the tight end position. With a Super Bowl championship, a commitment to his community and becoming the first President of the NFLPA, Mackey was a role model on and off the field.
