Blair Calvo’s Brilliant Pitching Performance Leads Eastern Florida State To 3-2 Win Over Miami

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Blair Calvo turned in a brilliant pitching performance and the Eastern Florida State College baseball team got a fielder’s choice from Luis Ciuro that scored Sammy Duran with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Titans defeated Miami-Dade 3-2 at Bruce Bochy Field Friday night.

Calvo, a sophomore right-hander, took a no-hitter into the top of the ninth inning before giving up a lead-off single. He struck out 10 and gave up just the one hit over 8 2/3 innings.

The Titans took a 2-0 lead into the ninth before Miami-Dade scored a pair of unearned runs to set up the dramatic finish.

Norberto Navarro went 2 for 5 with an RBI triple for the Titans. John Capra and Ruben Garcia each had two hits.

The Titans are now 23-10 overall and 9-5 in Southern Conference play.

EFSC and Miami-Dade will play again Saturday at 1 p.m. at Bruce Bochy Field.
