BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA –All the hard work and preparation comes to a head this weekend as Florida Tech faces its toughest test of the season Friday through Sunday at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championship on Mercer Lake.

FIT will have one boat at the championship regatta, the varsity heavyweight eight. That boat will be manned by Aaron Evans, Josip Bobinac, Kevin Coyle, Ljubo Gavric, Matas Lukosevicius, Phillip Machen, Kristjan Markovc, Woody Sandhu, and Nikola Selakovic.

The Panthers, ranked 17th in the USRowing Collegiate Poll, are coming off of a championship win at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Dad Vail title is the second consecutive for FIT, ending a 27-year drought at the historic race.

FIT won’t have to wait long to get things going, hitting the water in the first heat at 8:30 a.m. E.T. The Panthers, who will race out of Lane One, will be competing against No. 8 Northeastern, No. 1 Yale, No. 9 Boston, No. 16 Navy and Oklahoma City.

If the Panthers finish in the top two of the heat they will advance to the semifinals, otherwise they will move on to the reps. Reps are set from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.on Friday. Regardless of the results, FIT will race all three days in the Garden State.
