BREVARD COUNTY SHERIFF WAYNE IVEY: If you think running your mouth and acting like a tough guy is going to help you after you neglect to take care of your dog, you’d better think again. This dog, unfortunately, had no chance at survival after being neglected, so we went to put this guy behind bars to pay for the way he treated his dog. (BCSO video)
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Andrew Carroll of Rockledge has been arrested on a charge of aggravated animal abuse after Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said his dog died as a result of severe neglect.
According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a welfare check involving a dog and discovered the animal in extremely poor condition.
Sheriff Ivey said the dog was emaciated and suffering from significant injuries when it was found.
Authorities identified the suspect as Carroll following an investigation. Carroll was arrested and charged with aggravated animal abuse in connection with the animal’s death.
Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said the dog’s condition was so severe that it would not have recovered.
Investigators determined the animal had been neglected to the point that its health had deteriorated beyond treatment.
The case began after deputies were called to check on the dog’s well-being.
Evidence gathered during the investigation led authorities to conclude that the animal’s death was the result of neglect, according to the sheriff’s office.

Animal cruelty cases are taken seriously under Florida law, particularly when abuse or neglect results in the death of an animal.
A conviction for aggravated animal abuse can carry significant criminal penalties.
Carroll was taken into custody and booked into the Brevard County Jail. His first court appearance was scheduled for Friday.
The investigation remains active, and sheriff’s officials have not released additional details about how long the dog may have been neglected or whether other animals were found at the property.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging residents who suspect animal abuse or neglect to report concerns to law enforcement so that animals in distress can receive assistance before conditions become life-threatening.
