BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – Once all of the Pokemon have been caught on Friday night at Space Coast Stadium, the Brevard County Manatees and Viera Comics bring out “The Force”on Saturday July 30, as the Manatees will host Star Wars Night.
Characters from the movie franchise will be on hand to interact with fans, take photos, etc. The night will be themed around Star Wars, with Manatees players wearing Storm Trooper jerseys, Star Wars on-field games and a postgame fireworks show.
Fans are also encouraged to dress as their favorite character. CLICK HERE to purchase tickets for Star Wars Night.
“When I opened up my shop I knew I would want to partner with other businesses to create fun super hero and fantasy events and Star Wars night is a great way to do that!”said Peter Pappas owner of Viera Comics.
“Plus I’m a huge baseball fan so it was a no brainer.”
Beginning on Monday, July 25 the Manatees Star Wars Night jerseys will be available for bid on the teams website. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Brevard Schools Foundation, which will end on Saturday at 11:59 p.m.
Last season, the Manatees partnered with the Kennedy Space Center and wore special game jerseys and hats that did not take long to sell out. The shirt design used images from the Hubble Space Telescope to show the Comet ISON against a backdrop of distant galaxies and stars. The hat design is an image of Jupiter, also taken by the Hubble Space Telescope.

Part of the lure of minor league baseball is merchandising. The better the mascot, color scheme and team name–the better the sales. It appears at first glance the Star Wars jerseys should be just as popular, if not more popular than the ones worn last year for the Space Center.
