BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrolmen are investigating a deadly two-car crash that has killed 21-year-old Angel Fernandez of Palm Bay on Thursday.

The crash occurred around 9 a.m. Thursday morning off US-1 and Rocway Dr. in Melbourne.

According to Sgt. Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patrol, the preliminary investigation has revealed that Fernandez was traveling northbound on US-1 and lost control of his 2001 Nissan Maxima which carried him over into the southbound lanes of US-1 then collided into a 2006 Mercedes-Benz.

It is not yet known why Fernandez lost control of the vehicle.

Fernandez was transported to Holmes Regional where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz was not injured and identified by FHP as 65-year-old Indialantic resident Thomas Petrosky.

Both motorists were wearing seatbelts.

Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the incident.
