Space Coast Crew To Host Florida Scholastic Rowing Association East District Regatta April 1

Space Coast Crew will host the Florida Scholastic Rowing Association (FSRA) East District Championship Regatta at Parrish Park on Saturday, April 1.

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Space Coast Crew will host the Florida Scholastic Rowing Association (FSRA) East District Championship Regatta at Parrish Park on Saturday, April 1.

Parrish Park is located at 1 A. Max Brewer Memorial Parkway in Titusville, Florida.

Participating will be nearly 1,500 athletes, coaches, volunteers, parents and spectators from nine different rowing programs. Athletes will be representing teams located up and down the east coast – from Daytona Beach to Palm Beach.

“These teams are comprised of junior and senior high school student-athletes, some affiliated with a single school and others formed by youth from multiple schools in the area,” said Sue Markham of Space Coast Crew.

 

Events will include men and women’s categories, and one, two, four and eight person’s shells in both sweep and sculling. Athletes will compete in races for varsity, junior varsity, freshmen and lightweight division. These head-to-head races will run from 8 a.m. until about 4 p.m., and admission is free.

Concurrent with this event, the Brevard County championship regatta will he held among the five teams that consist of the Brevard region.

Points will be awarded among the teams to determine the men’s, women’s and overall Brevard Cup champions. Space Coast Crew is the reigning champion of Brevard County and will go for its fifth consecutive year of the overall team title.

Space Coast Crew’s mission is to promote a competitive rowing program that embodies sportsmanship and ethics through the principles of respect and responsibility, and to encourage personal growth through winning and losing with dignity and self-control.

Space Coast Crew is a non-profit organization established during the summer of 1996 to promote the sport of rowing among Brevard County Scholastic students, grades 7-12.

Current area participating high schools include Edgewood Jr/Sr High School, Florida Prep, Holy Trinity Academy, Melbourne Central Catholic, Merritt Island High School, Palm Bay High School, Satellite High School, Viera High School, West Shore High School, Bayside High School, Brevard Academy of Individual Excellence and Cocoa Beach High School.
