BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – I had the honor last week of attending the “Renaming Ceremony” of the Rockledge High School Law Academy that will now be named the “James M. Weaver Memorial Criminal Justice Academy.”

James “Jimmy” Weaver was a Rockledge High School graduate who proudly served as a Law Enforcement Officer for the the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Rockledge Police Department and eventually the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Jimmy, who was an incredible Deputy Sheriff and friend to everyone who new him, was killed in the line of duty in an automobile accident on November 24, 2003.

The Law Academy was renamed in honor of Jimmy to permanently memorialize his dedication and ultimate sacrifice as a Law Enforcement Officer.

The newly named academy, that is attended by almost 200 students annually at Rockledge High School is a great training and entry level program for students who are ultimately interested in starting a career in the field of Law Enforcement.

I would like to personally thank Principal Vickie Hickey of Rockledge High School and also Law Academy Instructor Eric Tardif for allowing me to speak at the event and for all they do as partners with Law Enforcement through their initiative at the Law Academy.

Through their efforts, Jimmy’s legacy will live on forever in each student who now attends the “James M. Weaver Memorial Criminal Justice Academy.”
