ABOVE VIDEO: Enjoy a delicious Florida Watermelon Fizz as this past spring saw warm weather and almost perfect growing conditions, which produced a great crop of juicy Florida watermelons.
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Florida watermelon production starts in the Immokalee region in mid-April and moves to central and northern Florida in mid- to late May.
Last year, rain, winds and low temperatures disrupted plantings, flooded fields and disrupted the crop.
However, this past spring saw warm weather and almost perfect growing conditions, which produced a great crop of juicy Florida watermelons.
This weeks “Fresh From Florida” recipe is a refreshing drink that will please the palate during the dog days of summer, enjoy.
Florida Watermelon Fizz
Ingredients:
- 5 cups Florida watermelon (seeded and cubed)
- Florida honey, to taste
- 2 cups sparkling water
- 1 lemon, juiced
- Fresh mint sprigs for garnish
Preparation:
First, cube enough watermelon for five cups then add to blender.
Next, add Florida honey to taste and juice from one lemon.
Process in blender until smooth and strain puree through a fine sieve.
Fill four glasses with ice and evenly distribute the strained juice into each glass.
Top each glass with sparkling water and stir once.
Garnish with fresh mint sprigs.
