It is with great sadness we inform everyone of the passing of former Brevard County Fire Rescue member, Captain William “Bill” Matta. (BCFR image)

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – It is with great sadness we inform everyone of the passing of former Brevard County Fire Rescue member, Captain William “Bill” Matta.

Bill began his firefighter career with Merritt Island Volunteer Fire Department and was hired by Brevard County Fire Control, District 2.

Captain Matta was a capable officer whose quick wit and compassion made him a very popular member of our department.

Bill’s contributions go beyond just him, his son retired Lt. Joe Matta was highly regarded and respected company officer with Brevard County Fire Rescue.

Our condolences to Bill’s family and loved ones, he was a truly beloved member of our fire service family.
