Cocoa Man Charged With Arson, Two Counts of Attempted Murder After Setting Apartment On Fire

A Cocoa man is facing attempted murder charge and arson after police say he set a bed mattress on fire Thursday morning before leaving an apartment during a domestic dispute with his girlfriend.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – A Cocoa man is facing two counts of attempted murder and arson after police say he set a bed mattress on fire in an apartment located on 1219 Dixon Blvd. Thursday morning.

The male suspect is identified as 47-year-old Melchizedek Seal.

Police first received a call at 9:50 a.m. on Thursday from woman claiming her boyfriend, Seal, had broken into her apartment through a back window. When police units arrived on scene, police located Seal leaving the apartment and detained him on the spot.

Ten minutes later, the woman attempted to go back inside the apartment when smoke began pouring out of the door. Police jumped into action and evacuated the building which included a pregnant woman who lived directly above the apartment unit that was on fire.

Police say that Seal that lived in the apartment with his girlfriend and began arguing with her Thursday morning. Seal punched out a window air conditioning unit, afraid for her safety, the woman fled to a nearby apartment to call police for help.

State Fire Marshal’s Office investigators were on scene and determined that Seal set the mattress on fire before leaving apartment.

Seal faces two counts of attempted murder and occupied arson.
