BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – The Summer Fine Arts Theatre Workshop program is returning to Brevard Public Schools through financial support from The Phoenix Foundation of Central Florida.

The Foundation will provide $1 million in financial support over five years to provide grants for teachers as well as fund the summer fine arts program.

The grant program, Morning Glow, is available to music teachers and theater teachers and managers. They may apply for up to $25,000 per application to be used in building, reviving, renovating, providing supplies for school music and theater programs.

Recipients will be selected by a committee, and grants will be awarded bi-annually in April and November.

“We are excited to resurrect the Summer Fine Arts Theatre Workshop,” said Cindy Johnson, resource teacher for K-12 music.

“It has been sorely missed. We are so grateful to the Phoenix Foundation of Central Florida for providing the funding for this impactful program and for grants for our music teachers, theater teachers and theater managers. The Phoenix Foundation of Central Florida is making a difference in the lives of our BPS students and teachers.”

The district hosted summer theater workshops for nearly 30 years until 2010 when the program was cut due to lack of funding. The Phoenix Foundation is dedicating half of their donation to reinstate the program.

The workshops begin May 30 and are open to incoming ninth-grade students through rising seniors. The program is free, but students must apply to participate.

Application information will be available in the upcoming weeks. Students will receive a fine arts credit for their involvement. Transportation will be provided, also funded by the foundation.
