BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – Sal Liberto was sworn in as Cocoa Beach Division Chief Fire Marshal during the February City Commission meeting by Cocoa Beach Fire Chief Ryan Duckworth.

Liberto was appointed to replace Chief Mark Amaral, who retired at the end of January after a career spanning more than 22 years.

Liberto is a graduate of Florida State University and holds a degree in Criminology. After years of working in his family’s business, Liberto attended fire school and has worked as a fire EMT, an inspector part-time while working his regular shift and paramedic.

After working as a volunteer with the Indialantic Fire Department for two years, Liberto joined the Cocoa Beach Fire Department in 2011.

In 2014 Liberto was named Firefighter of the Year for his outstanding performance and commitment to the job.

“Sal was promoted to the position due to the respect he’s earned in the department and his ability to deal with people,” said Cocoa Beach Deputy Fire Chief Mark Austin. “Sal is totally dedicated to fire safety management.”

When he’s not working, Liberto enjoys spending time with his family including his wife Tammy and daughter Sophia.
