BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – The wait for American Music Superstar Willie Nelson’s performance in Brevard County Saturday night was well worth it – as more than 6,000 wildly enthusiastic fans can attest.
Willie is back better than ever after a severe bout with the flu that caused him to cancel his original Feb. 17 date during the Space Coast Seafood Festival.
Willie will be 85-years old next month, but as he bounded on to the stage at Space Coast Daily Park in Viera, he didn’t waste any time getting down to business singing many of his hits of the last six decades.
Most of the sold-out crowd repeatedly jumped out of their seats during his rousing 75-minute performance, and many fans traveled from all over Florida, and the country, to hear the hero of their youth live before the icon heads into retirement, which is obviously no time soon.
“We’ve seen Willie play many times over the last 30 years and his show tonight was one of the best,” said Debbie Waldrop, who traveled from North Carolina to enjoy a perfect Space Coast March evening with temperatures in the high 50s under a crystal clear moon-lit sky.
Opening for Wille, and wowing the huge crowd was “Levon,” one of the hottest new country bands out of Nashville. Levon features Michael David Hall, Jake Singleton and Ryan Holladay, and is dually signed to Sony Music’s Columbia Nashville and Epic Records.
Brevard Public Schools Board Member Matt Susin took the stage to welcome the audience and Willie Nelson to Brevard and thanked the promoters for their efforts and contributions in supporting BPS initiatives and Viera High School. “This is a terrific event for Brevard – to bring an icon like Willie Nelson to our area and in generating extra funds for our schools.” said Susin.
The Willie Nelson concert was sponsored by Health First’s Viera Hospital, Space Coast Daily, News 6, Rock Paper Simple, Giant RV World and Savings Safari.
THE BEACH BOYS CO-FOUNDER BRIAN WILSON SET TO PERFORM ‘PET SOUNDS’ CONCERT MAY 19 AT SPACE COAST DAILY PARK
Next up for Space Coast Daily Park in Viera is Brian Wilson, co-founder of The Beach Boys and one of the most innovative and significant songwriters of the 20th century, who will perform a special concert featuring his critically-acclaimed Pet Sounds 50th Anniversary World Tour on Saturday, May 19.
Named one of Rolling Stone’s Greatest Tours of 2017, the tour has traveled to more than 24 countries, across 180 performances in total since its launch in 2016.
With one of last year’s most in-demand concert outings, Wilson has announced a tour extension, with a slate of 2018 North American shows featuring symphony orchestras.
“We are thrilled to present this world-class concert with Brian Wilson – one of the greatest ever songwriters,” said Giles Malone, partner with Space Coast Daily, which is producing the event.
After signing with Capitol Records in 1962, Wilson wrote or co-wrote more than two dozen Top 40 hits for the world famous Beach Boys.
“We are so fortunate and proud to bring legendary Brian Wilson to Brevard,” said Tom Palermo, a partner and the Publisher of Space Coast Daily.
“This will be an amazing opportunity to see Brian Wilson perform – don’t miss it.”
Brian Wilson is a Kennedy Center Honors recipient, a Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, and a U.K. Music Hall of Fame inductee. As a member of The Beach Boys, Wilson was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, and honored with The Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001.
