2018 Toyota RAV4 features 176-horsepower

SPACE COAST DAILY TV: Space Coast Daily’s Alan Zlotorzynski spent some time today at Mike Erdman Toyota on Merritt Island with Speer Mabry, one of the area’s top authorities on Toyota’s line of cars and trucks. Mabry, a 10-year top sales associate for Mike Erdman Toyota, demonstrated and drove for Space Coast Daily the brand new 2018 Toyota RAV4 – it back and enjoy the ride!

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA — The 2018 Toyota RAV4 is all about practicality as it combines easygoing, stable handling with a wealth of standard safety features. The 2018 model also gets a new special-edition called the RAV4 Adventure, which comes with the Tow Prep package that can pull up to 3,500 pounds.

This special package also delivers a higher ride height, 18-inch alloy wheels, lower bodyguards, black headlight bezels and fog light surrounds, a 120V power outlet in the cargo area, all-weather floor mats, special interior trim panels, and a leather-wrapped shift knob. The 2018 RAV4 feels reasonably peppy.

This 176-horsepower SUV has no trouble cruising down the highway or through the city. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission is the only powertrain available. The front-wheel-drive RAV4 takes little effort to wield, rewarding occupants with a smooth, stable ride.

The Rav4 is also fuel efficient as it gets 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. Toyota also offers a hybrid version of the RAV4, which gets an EPA-estimated 34 mpg city/30 mpg highway.

Every RAV4 comes with a touchscreen and an easy-to-use version of Toyota’s  Entune infotainment interface. You can link your phone with the available Entune App Suite to access iHeartRadio, Pandora, Yelp, Facebook Places, and more.

Toyota has stepped to the front of the car manufacturing line in terms of standard safety features and the Rav4 is no different.

Every RAV4 comes with a rearview camera and Toyota Safety Sense P (which consists of a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control). Available safety features include front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and a bird’s-eye-view camera that provides a 360-degree view around the car.

The 2018 RAV4 aced every Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash test, and the 2017 model was named a Top Safety Pick+, the IIHS’ highest safety designation.

A major part of the Rav4’s top safety designation is the fact it comes standard with a driver’s, passenger, rear and front, and front side and rear side airbags. When it comes to checking off boxes that constitute a family-friendly SUV, the RAV4 gets a gold star.

The current generation gets good marks for predicted reliability and earns praise for being solid and well-built. It performs admirably in crash tests and comes standard with more safety technology than most rivals. Cargo space – both behind the rear seat and overall – is among the class leaders.
