Tropical Storm Fay Strengthens Over Atlantic, Could Near Hurricane Intensity

No coastal watches or warnings are in effect

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Tropical Storm Fay continued to strengthen over the Atlantic on Sunday, with maximum sustained winds increasing to 60 mph, according to the latest advisory.

At 11 a.m. EDT, the center of Fay was moving toward the northeast at 3 mph. That motion is expected to continue through the remainder of Sunday before Fay turns toward the southwest on Monday.

Additional strengthening is forecast during the next day or so, and Fay could approach hurricane intensity Sunday night.

A gradual weakening trend is expected to begin Monday.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles from the storm’s center.

There are currently no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
