A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on Wednesday along US-1 and Harrison St. in Titusville.

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on Wednesday along US-1 and Harrison St. in Titusville.

Police received a call around 2:10 p.m. about a report of a traffic crash with injuries that involved a vehicle and a motorcycle at the intersection of US-1 and Harrison St.

The preliminary investigation has revealed a man was driving a 2000 Suzuki VZ800 road cruiser motorcycle southbound on South Washington Ave. when witnesses say motorcycle sped up to beat a traffic signal.

It was at that moment when a motorist, identified as 76-year-old Ralph Paul Franz from Titusville, was traveling northbound in his 2011 Dodge Caravan on South Washington Ave. and made a left turn into the intersection to head west onto Harrison St.

The motorcycle then collided into the side of the Dodge Caravan at the intersection.

The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at around 4:15 p.m. Police will release the identity of the motorcyclist after the family has been properly notified.

Police say there were no other injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Titusville Police Department.

The result of the crash forced officials to close all lanes at the intersection briefly Wednesday afternoon. Traffic was detoured for period of time as investigators and rescue crews processed the crash scene.
