Florida Tech Panthers Close Out Regular Season Against Shorter Hawks With Playoff Hopes On the Line

Florida Tech looks for 8th win on the season
ROME, GEORGIA (Florida Tech) – The Panthers close out their regular season slate this Saturday with a road GSC game against Shorter. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET at Barton Stadium in Rome, Ga.
With a win against the Hawks (0-10, 0-7 GSC), Florida Tech (7-3, 4-3 GSC) should clinch its spot in the 2018 NCAA Playoffs. The Crimson & Gray currently hold the No. 6 seed on the Super Region 2 ranking, and the top 6 spots in each region receive a bid into the playoffs.

Florida Tech has won all five games in the series with Shorter. The first three matchups were very close games and decided by just four points in each contest. Since then, the Panthers have dominated the past two meeting, outscoring the Hawks 71-6 over the two games including a 40-0 victory the last time the teams met in Rome.
MEET THE HAWKS
Shorter enters Saturday’s finale with a 0-10 record. The Hawks have fallen on hard times the past few years and have been handed 38 losses in a row dating back to the 2015 season. SU’s last win came on Oct. 3, 2015, in a 42-23 result over Mississippi College.
Zach Morrison is in his first season as head coach of the Hawks football program. He took over the position in January 2018.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP: HAWK OFFENSE vs. PANTHER DEFENSE
The Hawks rank ninth in the GSC in scoring offense, at 13.9 points per game, and total offense, at 267.5 yards per game. SU averages 75.4 yards on the ground per game and 192.1 through the air.
Florida Tech, on the other hand, has been one of the stingiest defenses in the GSC this season. The Panthers rank second in the league in both total defense (327.2) and passing defense (181.2). The Crimson & Gray are also third in scoring defense, allowing just 22.0 points per game to its opponents.

The Panthers rank fourth in the conference in scoring this season with 25.9 points per game. Florida Tech is sixth in total offense (349.8) and passing offense (234.0), while also ranking seventh in rushing offense at 115.8 yards per game
Similar to their offensive struggles, the Hawks have fallen on hard times with their defense. Shorter ranks last in the GSC in scoring defense (50.1), total defense (502.8), rushing defense (203.6), and passing defense (299.2).
