Land's 28 face-off wins are the most by any player in a game in SSC history

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – After a pair of brilliant performances last week, Ryan Land has been named the Sunshine State Conference’s Specialist of the Week. This is his first time receiving the award.
Land was a dominant force at the face-off x last week, as he set school and SSC records, etched his name in the NCAA record books, and all the while leading Florida Tech to a 2-0 record. The senior won 44-of-56 face-offs during the week to go along with 22 ground balls and one goal.
In the first contest of the week, the Ellicott City, Maryland product went 16-of-19 at the x and collected eight ground balls as Tech routed Nichols College, 24-6, on Tuesday.
In Saturday’s SSC opener against No. 20 Rollins, Land put on a performance never seen before in the SSC, and one that has been achieved only a few times by a single player in NCAA Division II history.
The senior went 28-of-37 on face-offs in the game and tied a school record with 14 ground balls. Land also added a goal in the game, finding the top corner of Rollins’ net to give Tech its first lead of the game, 13-12 early in the fourth quarter.
Without his performance against Rollins, the Panthers would have never mounted the largest comeback win in program history, rallying from an 8-0 deficit to defeat the Tars, 17-16.
Land’s 28 face-off wins are the most by any player in a game in SSC history as well as the eighth most in NCAA DII history. He was just three wins away from tying the DII single-game record of 31.
The men’s lacrosse team is back in action Wednesday, Mar. 27, with a key SSC matchup with Tampa on the road. Start time between Tech and the Spartans is set for 8 p.m. at the Naimoli Family Athletic Complex in Tampa, Florida.
