BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Merritt Island volleyball juggernaut continues to roll as the Mustangs swept the Sunshine State Athletic Conference Class AA Beach Volleyball State Championship and the Challenge Cup in action on Friday and Saturday at Hickory Point Beach.
The Mustang victory comes on the heels of Coach Angie Patrick’s Merritt Island High School volleyball team’s Florida High School Athletic Association 6A state championship last November.
“This is such a sweet way for our seniors to go out – two state championships in one year,” said Patrick, who coaches the beach team with Connie Denaburg.
Mustang players include Lexy Denaburg, Shae Henson, Bobbie Schwantz, Macy Reynolds, Penelope Colombo, Jasmine Sayre, Jordyn Patrick, Macie Sinclair, Katie Callenberger, Sammy Wegner and Emily Callenberger.
The Sunshine State Athletic Conference, which has more than 100 member schools, is a high school athletic organization that offers multiple sports focused on promoting good sportsmanship and fair play for participants, and strives to maintain high standards and a level playing field for all its members and student-athletes.
