THE WESTERN WALL • OLD CITY JERUSALEM – Rep. Randy Fine (R-Palm Bay) was with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as he signed legislation Wednesday in Jerusalem banning anti-Semitism in Florida’s public schools.

The legislation was effective upon signing, the first bill in Florida history signed on foreign soil.

Fine was the House sponsor of the legislation whose efforts were key to the bill becoming law.

Fine, who is Jewish, told a story about how he was in seventh grade and failed algebra because he missed a test on Yom Kippur, which his teacher said wasn’t a real holiday.

“In the record of my life, today will go down as one of the most special days,” said Fine.

“Together with 160 representatives, senators and a governor, we adopted the most stringent legislation ever adopted to protect Jewish children from the world’s oldest and most virulent form of discrimination.

“And to do that in Jerusalem, in the historic King David Hotel, and then to touch, for the first time in my life, the holiest site of that religion that has had to endure so much for so long… well, I won’t lie. I wept like a baby.

“I am grateful beyond measure to my constituents for allowing me to fight for this, and to those, I am privileged to serve with for fighting beside me.”

On Thursday, Fine was with Prime Minister Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu.

“Cool things that don’t happen to you every day — meeting one of my personal heroes, Bibi Netanyahu, and then hanging out back of house while he finishes up his meetings. Not sure when I will next wash my right hand,” said Fine.

Fine represents District 53, which is comprised of the southern portion of Brevard County and includes the entirety of Palm Bay, Malabar, and Grant-Valkaria, and portions of Melbourne, West Melbourne, and unincorporated Brevard.

In the legislature, he is the Chairman of Higher Education Appropriations Subcommittee, Vice Chairman of Gaming Control Subcommittee, serves on Health Quality Subcommittee, Business and Professions Subcommittee, Education Committee, Appropriations Committee and Brevard County Delegation.
