Three Florida Tech Athletes Receive Google Cloud Academic All-American Honors

Hana Malia Ito, Harry Sale and Logan Sweeney receive Google Cloud Academic All-America honors
BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Three Florida Tech student-athletes have been named to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-America At-Large teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Representing the Crimson & Gray are Hana Malia Ito of women’s rowing, Harry Sale of men’s swimming and Logan Sweeney of men’s lacrosse. Sale earned Second Team Academic All-America honors while Ito and Sweeney are recognized on the third team.
This is the first career Academic All-America award for each of the three Panthers.
The Google Cloud Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.
The at-large program for the Google Cloud Academic All-America program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men and women; bowling, crew and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men.
Ito picks up her first Academic All-America award following four consecutive years of holding a 4.00 GPA in marketing. The Honolulu, Hawaii native has been a part of three SSC Championship teams as a member of the women’s rowing program.
In 2017, she received Scholar-Athlete honors from the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association. This year, Ito helped guide the Junior Varsity Four boat to an SSC title as well as several impressive finishes throughout the season.
A senior out of Spring, Texas, Sale is a three-year member of the Panther swimming program and graduated with a 3.96 GPA in chemical engineering.
He had a terrific senior campaign and was a member of Tech’s 400 and 800 freestyle relays that finished fifth at the 2019 SSC Championships.
Sale also picked up two First Team All-America awards while serving as one of the legs in the 400 and 200 free relays that finished fourth and fifth, respectively, at this year’s NCAA Championships.
Sweeney makes his first appearance on the Google Cloud Academic All-America squads after consecutive years earning Academic All-District honors in 2018-19. The senior out of Sykesville, Maryland is a four-year member of the men’s lacrosse team and boasted a 3.92 GPA in chemical engineering.
The 2018-19 Florida Tech Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year was voted a USILA All-American in 2017 while also earning three All-SSC selections during his career.
Additionally, Sweeney ranks second all-time in program history with 122 career points on 84 goals and 38 assists.
