SHERIFF IVEY: amazing team who do amazing things

BREVARD COUNTY SHERIFF WAYNE IVEY: I am extremely proud of Deputy Dalton Farrington, who treated an elderly citizen as if he was assisting his own mom. He spent hours on a call to ensure she received the resources and care she needed and made sure that she was provided for. I tell people all the time that I am surrounded by an amazing team who do amazing things every day to protect our citizens and Deputy Farrington is a shining example of just how true that statement is.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – As everyone knows I could not be more proud of our team and a Facebook post from yesterday about one of our Deputies is a perfect example of why I am so proud of the 1,500 men and women of your Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

The post by a very nice citizen was about a friend who required some assistance on July 11, where Deputy Dalton Farrington responded to the call.

The caller was the friend of an elderly woman who suffers from dementia and had been released from the hospital for a previous fall that required in-patient treatment.

The neighbor noted that the transportation arranged by the releasing facility had left the women standing alone in her driveway. When the friend approached to assist, it became apparent she was confused.

It was also discovered that the friend was without power or water at her home and all of the food in her refrigerator had become rotten during her stay in the hospital.

Upon arrival, Deputy Farrington learned that the neighbor had been attempting to get assistance for the elderly woman from DCF, but had not gotten an immediate response.

Deputy Farrington was able to speak with the elderly woman’s sibling who refused to assist in any way and when asked if there might be another family member to help, replied “I’m not going to give you that information,” and hung up on Deputy Farrington.

Undeterred, Deputy Farrington worked with the concerned friend and then contacted DCF himself to explain the nature and specifics of the situation and to also make a formal law enforcement request for assistance.

Deputy Farrington was able to get through to representatives of Adult Protective Services to ensure a response, which subsequently took place today.

The gracious friend and Deputy Farrington then managed to get the woman situated for the night so that she could rest comfortably in the friend’s air-conditioned home.

Deputy Farrington shared with us that he was very disappointed by the response he received from the sibling of the elderly women and it only made him work harder to ensure she received the care she needed.

Deputy Dalton stated that in speaking with the woman, he discovered her husband had passed away 3 months prior. Unfortunately, the utilities were in his name and were not transferred over into the woman’s name due to her medical condition and as such had been cut-off.

Deputy Farrington joined our agency in February 2017 as a Public Service Aid assigned to our South Precinct. He served in that capacity until early 2018 when he received a position in the law enforcement academy.

He was sworn-in as a Deputy Sheriff in November 2018 and is assigned to our South Precinct.

I am extremely proud of Dalton who treated this citizen as if he was assisting his own mom. He spent hours on a call to ensure she received the resources and care she needed and made sure that she was provided for.

I tell people all the time that I am surrounded by an amazing team who do amazing things every day to protect our citizens and Deputy Farrington is a shining example of just how true that statement is.

Please join me in thanking Deputy Farrington and the incredible friend for taking the time to make a difference in this lady’s life!
