ORLANDO, FLORIDA – UCF Knights opened up fall practice in helmets on Wednesday after a two-hour practice on the fields outside the Nicholson Fieldhouse.
Head coach Josh Heupel addressed the media after practice and saw a team excited to get back on the practice field.
“Ton of excitement. We’ve been working a long time to get back on the grass,” said Coach Heupel, entering his second year as head coach.
“They’ve put in a ton of work. They’ve been excited about meetings, excited in the team meeting room last night, they were excited on the practice field today and I think they are all excited about getting back in the meeting room and coming back out for day 2.”
The Knights are not short of expectations, either. Recently, UCF was picked to win the AAC for the third straight year.
One of the key positions to watch this month will be the quarterback position. With McKenzie Milton and Darriel Mack Jr. out for the year due to injury, Notre Dame transfer Brandon Wimbush looks to be the favorite at the quarterback position as he battles freshman Dillon Gabriel, freshman Quadry Jones and former Viera Hawk Hayden Kingston (RS-Junior).
“It went well. It got better as the day went on. Started having a little bit more fun and feeling a little bit more comfortable as the day went on,” said Wimbush.
The Knights open up their season against Florida A&M at home on Thursday, August 29.
