BREVARD COUNTY • PORT ST. JOHN, FLORIDA — A familiar shopping destination in Port St. John is preparing for change as Aldi moves into the space once occupied by Winn-Dixie, which closed in 2024 after decades as the plaza’s anchor tenant.
The closure followed Aldi’s acquisition of Southeastern Grocers, parent company of Winn-Dixie and Harvey’s, a deal that has paved the way for Aldi to expand its Florida footprint.
Leasing documents now list Aldi as “coming soon,” signaling that the grocer will occupy the same space that had housed Winn-Dixie since the late 1980s.
The plaza, built in 1986, has long served as a community hub. Planet Fitness, Subway, Burger King, and KFC remain tenants alongside the soon-to-open Aldi, keeping the 89,772-square-foot property active.
Located on U.S. Hwy. 1, directly across from Cape Canaveral’s power facilities, the center draws more than 32,000 passing vehicles each day.
Its visibility and proximity to neighborhoods along Bowman Boulevard, Vineland Street, and Aron Street have cemented it as a local landmark for nearly four decades.
For Aldi, the Port St. John store is part of a broader statewide strategy. Since opening its first Florida location in 2008, the discount grocer has expanded rapidly, now operating more than 2,000 stores nationwide.
By converting former Winn-Dixie locations, including this one, Aldi is further solidifying its presence in Florida’s competitive grocery market.
