Florida Tech Panthers Receive Votes In 2019 AFCA Preseason Coaches Top 25 Poll

SPACE COAST DAILY TV: Florida Tech football will be looking for production out of its passing game in 2019 as the Panthers try to earn their third postseason berth in four tries. Two of the players most responsible for the team’s success through the air are quarterback Trent Chmelik and wide receiver Damien McGhee, who spoke to Space Coast Daily’s Chris Bonanno about the upcoming season.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Florida Tech football team is receiving votes in the 2019 AFCA Preseason Coaches Top 25 Poll.

This is the second time in program history that the Panthers are featured in the preseason ranking, with the first appearance occurring prior to last season.

Tech garnered a total of 10 votes in the AFCA preseason ranking. Last season, Florida Tech posted an 8-4 record including the program’s second-ever NCAA Playoff berth.

Defending National Champion Valdosta State is the No. 1 team in the preseason ranking after the Blazers went 14-0 in 2018 and earned their fourth title in the last 14 years. West Georgia is ranked 15th in the ranking while West Alabama comes in at No. 24. West Florida is also receiving votes in the preseason poll.

The seventh football season in Florida Tech history begins on Saturday, Sept. 7, on the road against Savannah State. Tech’s matchup with the Tigers is set to kickoff at 6 p.m. at Ted Wright Stadium in Savannah, Georgia.

The Panthers’ first home game will not come until the fourth week of the season when Florida Tech hosts GSC rival West Georgia for a matchup under the lights on Saturday, Sept. 28, at Panther Stadium.
