SCHOOL THREAT RESULTS IN CHARGES AND ARREST OF STUDENT WHO MADE THREATS USING SOCIAL MEDIA
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to Edgewood Jr./Sr. High on Wednesday to investigate a social media threat that was received by a student who attended the school.
Addressing the threat as potentially credible, Deputies and Agents from the East Precinct responded to the scene to follow up on leads provided by the school’s School Resource Deputy.
Through various investigative efforts by BCSO Agents, the suspect responsible for making the threat was located and subsequently arrested.
Additionally recovered was the suspected weapon, which was determined to be a replica firearm.
The suspect was charged with Sending Written Threats to Kill or Injure and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.
It is extremely important to recognize that threat is no longer considered to be credible and the suspect, a juvenile, was determined to be non-lethal.
I can’t thank the coordinated efforts between the BPS District Security team, the staff of Edgewood Jr./Sr. High and our investigative resources.
The partnership between the School Board and Brevard County Law Enforcement agencies is outstanding and completely focused on the safety of our children, educators, staff and school visitors.
Today’s case is a perfect example of what happens when we all work together to keep our schools safe!
Please join me in thanking everyone involved in this timely and effective response to a potential threat to our schools.
