Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey Joins Sheriffs From Across the Nation in Washington DC to Call for Action on Immigration Reform

WASHINGTON DC – Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey was among the keynote speakers on Capitol Hill in Washington DC this morning as Sheriffs from across the country shared their experiences and public safety challenges associated with illegal aliens, and call on Congress to act on pending legislation to increase border security and reform the immigration system.

Sheriff Ivey joined with 200 sheriffs from every corner of the country, along with  Angel Families on Capitol Hill and met with lawmakers and administration officials to discuss the impact that illegal immigration has on their communities.

The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR)  is hosting this two-day event, which is designed to draw attention to America’s border crisis and encouraging Congress to act.

Founded in 1979, FAIR says that it is the nation’s largest immigration reform group, with 2 million members.

“Sheriffs want immediate action by Congress in passing meaningful legislation to better secure our nation’s borders while also enhancing interior security of our communities,” said Sheriff Ivey.

“Get off your lazy buts and do your jobs,” said Ivey to members of congress not supporting the fight on illegal immigration.

“Like every American, I am deeply concerned by the opioid crisis that has impacted each of us as we are all tasked with protecting our communities against gangs, human traffickers, and the drug cartels who continue to flood our country and target our citizens. Without true border security, we can never have Homeland Security and the ability to protect our nation.”

In conjunction, the 13th annual “Hold Their Feet to the Fire” (F2F) radio row is featuring 70 talk hosts broadcasting live both days, debating immigration policy, interviewing members of Congress, law enforcement officials, experts, activists, administration officials and those who live and work along the southern border.

“The Sheriffs and I will also be taking part in individual meetings tomorrow with members of the House and Senate to encourage them to take action in strengthening our borders, enhancing collaboration between local, state and federal law enforcement agencies and streamlining the process for those who wish to enter our country legally, thus giving them a pathway to citizenship,” said Sheriff Ivey.
