Florida Tech Panthers Men’s Golf Team Concludes Fall Season With Two Tournaments

Florida Tech finishes tied for seventh at Copperhead Championship, fifth and sixth at Webber Fall Classic

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Florida Tech golf team completed its participation at the Copperhead Championship and Webber Fall Classic on Tuesday to conclude the fall portion of the Panthers’ season.

COPPERHEAD CHAMPIONSHIP – Innisbrook Resort – Palm Harbor, Florida – Par 71 – 7,209 Yards

The Crimson & Gray posted a score of (+9) 293 in the final round of the Copperhead Championship on Tuesday and finished in a tie for seventh with Queen’s (N.C.). The Panthers ended with a team total of (+24) 876 (292-291-293).

No. 4 Barry won the team title at (-2) 850 and No. 24 Columbus State claimed second at (+5) 857. No. 14 Lincoln Memorial finished third at (+11) 863, while No. 7 Georgia Southwestern (+14) and No. 3 West Florida (+17) rounded out the top five. No. 1 Lynn earned sixth after finishing six strokes better than Florida Tech.

Queen’s Taisuke Ono ran away with the individual championship winning by a nine-stroke margin at (-10) 203. LMU’s Dan Bradbury and Barry’s Tyler Bakich tied for runner-up at (-1) 212.

Kyle Decenzo finished off his consistent week with his second round of (+1) 72 and ended tied for 15th at (+2) 215. Chase Cutshall, who ranked fourth in the tourney with 11 total birdies, shot his second below-par round in a row with a 70 on Tuesday to climb into a tie for 18th at (+3) 216 (77-69-70).

Max O’Hagan and Jacob Saarela each tied for 49th at (+11) 224 following final round scores of (+8) 79 and (+2) 73, respectively. Sam Avey carded a (+7) 78 on Tuesday and ended in a tie for 83rd at (+21) 234.

WEBBER FALL CLASSIC – Lake Wales Country Club – Lake Wales, Florida – Par 72 – 6,982 Yards

The Florida Tech “B” and “C” teams took fifth and sixth overall in the Webber Fall Classic, finishing with respective team totals of (+56) 920 and (+110) 974.

Thomas (Ga.) won the team title at (-3) 861. St. Thomas (Fla.) took runner-up at (+4) 868 while Webber (+12) and Savannah State (+35) rounded out the top four.

Webber’s Alberto Uriach defeated Thomas’ Joe Bannan in a playoff to win the individual title at (-4) 212.

Ryan Hull concluded his good week on the course with a (+3) 75 during the final round to end in a tie for 11th at (+5) 221 (73-73-75).

Matthew Brown took 24th at (+19) 235. Also in the top 25 were Kyle Somers and Yannick Lebreton who each tied for 25th at (+20) 236. Matthew Senft-Greenberg rounded the “B” team in a tie for 29th at (+24) 240.

Nicholas Velasquez led the “C” team in 19th at (+14) 230 (76-76-78). Hailey Ko finished up in a tie for 27th at (+22) 238. Zachary Sherman concluded in a tie for 35th at (+33) 249 while Jacob Brantefelt ended at (+41) 257 and in 38th-place.

With the fall season now at a close, Panther golf will now look forward to the beginning of the spring campaign, which is set to open up with the annual Collegiate Cup with crosstown foe Eastern Florida State College.
