Florida Tech Touted No. 9 in Sunshine State Conference Preseason Coaches Poll

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech women’s basketball has been selected ninth in the 2019-20 Sunshine State Conference preseason coaches’ poll, announced Tuesday, Oct. 29. The Panthers are coming off an 8-20 (4-16 SSC) record in 2018-19.
The Tampa Spartans are predicted to take the crown from the two-time defending champions Florida Southern Mocs. UT garnered 95 total votes and six of the first-place variety. Nova Southeastern are second with 91 total votes and four first-place votes. The defending champs are third in the poll and came in with 78 votes and the final first-place vote.
Eckerd (74) and Rollins (58) were the final two in the top half of the poll. While, Embry-Riddle (54) is anticipated to finish in the middle of the pack. Lynn (46) and Barry (45) are expected to round out the 2020 SSC tournament field.
The Crimson and Gray are the first of the three teams on the outside looking in for postseason play as they tallied 32 total votes. Saint Leo (19) and Palm Beach Atlantic (13) garner the 10th and 11th spot in the preseason poll.
This Panthers team look a lot different compared to the past couple seasons as four of the team’s leaders graduated in spring 2019. So rising seniors Aniquah Swan, Gudlaug Juliusdottir and Amanda Allen will be called upon to take up those leadership roles.
Florida Tech take the court for its first official game Friday, Nov. 8, when they head over to Tampa, Florida, for the SSC/GSC Challenge. This contest against West Georgia takes place at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center and begins at 5 p.m. ET.
