BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – In July, Centerpointe Church held its 9th Annual Back-2-School event. Over the years it has grown into the biggest back to school event in Brevard County, with over 5,000 in attendance.
They give away thousands of backpacks, school supplies, haircuts, eye exams, skin checks, medical checkups, bike helmets, games, food, at no charge to anyone who wishes to attend.
Centerpointe Church is led by Pastor Tom Walker and his wife Sue, who is the driving force behind the event. Everyone belongs, regardless of their background, culture or personality.
“We care about each other’s heart, not what we are wearing, or what we do for a living,” said Tom Walker. “We are a family that understands that God’s love, mercy, and grace has no limitations, so neither should ours.”

CenterPointe Church is a place where the doors are always open, where you will encounter spiritual truths and wrestle with questions in a safe and welcoming community
“This Back-2-School event is not for recognition, it is about serving the community and spreading the Lord’s message,” said Tom Walker.
“Sue does an amazing job organizing this event, providing inspiration and leadership.”
The Church has an incredible relationship with local businesses that not only partner with contributions but volunteer their time. It is amazing to see nearly six hundred volunteers come together to serve the community and the mission of the church, as the event would not be possible without them.
Every year, principals, teachers, and government officials are involved in the event, both attending and serving. Each volunteer assumes the role of support, whether helping with trash or mentoring, all of which is amazing.
Their efforts are rewarded with every smile on a child’s face when they receive a new backpack, a new haircut, or when receiving a hug from a child who just wants to say thank you.

Recognizing Outstanding Individuals & Organizations Who Dedicate Their Time, Talent and Treasure
The 2019 Central Florida Humanitarians have been announced and include outstanding individuals and organizations from the medical, business, education and governmental communities.
The Central Florida Humanitarian honorees will be recognized during a Gala event on Thursday, Nov. 7, at the Hilton Melbourne Rialto Place in Melbourne, Florida.
The Central Florida Humanitarian Awards were created in 2009 by Space Coast Daily to recognize outstanding individuals and organizations that dedicate their time, talent or treasure to help people in need locally – and around the world.
TIME: In this category consider candidates who have selflessly and consistently devoted their time as volunteers at hospitals and nursing homes, in activities for the less fortunate and as organizers, administrators or operatives in the many other altruistic endeavors in our community.

TALENT: In this category give consideration to those who have volunteered their special talents and expertise to address specific circumstances in which the lives of those in need are improved.
TREASURE: The humanitarians in this category will include those who have generously shared their monetary good fortune and/or volunteered their time and efforts in fundraising for the advancement of a philanthropic cause.
All 2019 honorees will be featured in the Oct/Nov 2019 edition of Space Coast Daily magazine and on SpaceCoastDaily.com. The magazine will be available in both print and digital editions, which will also be available on SpaceCoastDaily.com soon.
