For many years, higher education was seen as the province of a relatively small percentage of the population and necessary for a few specialist occupations.
Distance learning was seen as an ideal opportunity to increase the number of people who study an online college degree, and with the advent of the same technology, it fueled the need for more educated people, making delivery, study, and communication relatively easy.

Colleges and universities found that they could staff this new delivery mode on a need basis, and student accommodation on campus was only necessary on an occasional basis.
These factors mean that the resources go into the online degree materials, making the quality of program content better. Staff can concentrate on individual student communications, and on small group tutorials.
So the online college degree means that more students can be given better quality instruction and teaching, and the capacity for expansion is built into the system.
But what about the non-distance learning degree? In many cases, it benefits from the online college degree; materials can be used by both modes of delivery, and in some cases, students from both groups can work together.

Major Distance Learning Issues
What are the stumbling blocks of studying a bachelor’s degree online? There are several issues that you need to consider, but the major ones are:
You need to have enough personal discipline to be able to make yourself study for your online college degree on a regular basis. It is no good studying for one session of three hours every month; you will need to be able to study for some 8 to 10 hours every week.
You should work hard at keeping contact with your tutor and the other members of your class. Interaction with other people who are studying what you are is an important part of your learning process. Distance learning means that you have to make a conscious effort to keep this interaction going.
You must have reliable equipment to study on, and be able to access your distance learning materials when you need to do so.
The motivation to finish your bachelor’s degree online must be high. It is relatively easy to start a distance learning program, but continuing to study over a period of up to four years takes serious motivation.
You must be able to arrange your time so that you can attend any on-campus study periods.
These are a really important part of your online college degree program, and allow you to sort out problems, get to know your fellow students and tutors better, and to refresh your enthusiasm for your studies.
You shouldn’t miss them, and you should be able to attend without having to worry about what you are not doing back home.
Studying for any degree is difficult and requires dedication. For many people, online college degrees give opportunities that they could not otherwise consider, but you need to know that you will be able to stand the pace.
