2020 Sunshine State Conference Preseason Poll Ranks Florida Tech Softball Second

Panthers will open its season Jan. 31 on the road

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – After capturing the first Sunshine State Conference title in program history in 2019, the SSC preseason coaches’ poll has predicted the Florida Tech softball team to finished second in 2020. 

After a historic 2019 season that saw the Crimson & Gray go 42-12 and 23-7 in conference play and the team’s first SSC championship plus its first berth in the NCAA tournament since 2015.

The women made it all the way to the South Super Regional before their season ended against a tough West Florida team.

The conference coaches picked Rollins as the top team as the Tars earned 93 total points and seven first-place votes. The Panthers are second with 82 points and three first-place votes.

Saint Leo and Tampa rounded out the top three as both teams tallied 90 points but the Spartans grabbed the final first-place vote.

Embry-Riddle (69), Nova Southeastern (56), Palm Beach Atlantic (47) and Florida Southern (29) are the teams selected as the middle of the pack. Eckerd (23), Lynn (21) and Barry (15) round out the bottom portion of the poll.

The Panthers will open its season Jan. 31 when they head to Gulf Shores, Alabama, for the Gulf Shores Invitational. The team’s first opponent is Delta State at 11 a.m. ET and will again take the field later against the Mississippi College Choctaws.
