BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – White rhino Howard has been with the Brevard Zoo since 2003, and during that time, “Howie” has become a favorite of guests and staff alike due to his sweet personality.

Under a recommendation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ white rhino Species Survival Plan, Howie will soon be heading to Phoenix Zoo, and the Brevard Zoo animal care staff is helping him prepare for his big move.

Howie’s to-do list before the trip includes crate training. Keepers have been diligently working with Howie to familiarize him with the crate that he will be transported in to add ease to his journey.

Howie will no longer be visible in the rhino yard as his handlers will keep him behind the scenes to focus on training.

“Although the Brevard Zoo will miss him, we know that Howie will be in good hands in his new home, where he’ll be a companion to 22-year-old LouLou,” said Brevard Zoo officials.

“Nicknamed ‘Princess LouLou,’ we hear she’s smart, feisty and energetic, which should keep Howie on his toes.”
