Health First’s Cape Canaveral and Viera Hospitals Receive 5-Star Overall Ratings from CMS

Health First’s Cape Canaveral Hospital and Viera Hospital, above, have earned five stars – the highest rating from the federal government for quality of care. Health First’s Palm Bay Hospital maintained a four-star rating, and Health First’s Holmes Regional Medical Center maintained three stars.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Health First’s Cape Canaveral and Viera Hospitals have earned five stars – the highest rating from the federal government for quality of care.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released its current ratings earlier this week.

Cape Canaveral and Viera Hospitals are:

• The only two Brevard County hospitals to receive five stars
• Two of 11 hospitals in the state of Florida to receive five stars
•  Two of 407 hospitals nationwide to receive five stars

Health First’s Palm Bay Hospital maintained a four-star rating, and Health First’s Holmes Regional Medical Center maintained three stars.

CMS evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide, using the one- to five-star rating system to reflect an overall hospital rating in an effort to make it easier for consumers to choose a hospital and understand the quality of care it delivers.

A breakdown of the 2019 ratings includes:

• One star: 228 hospitals
• Two stars: 710 hospitals
• Three stars: 1,191 hospitals
• Four stars: 1,136 hospitals
•  Five stars: 407 hospitals

The five-star rating is reserved for the highest-performing hospitals using a variety of measures across seven areas of quality and combining those measures into a single star rating.

The seven areas include: Mortality, Safety of Care, Readmission, Patient Experience, Effectiveness of Care, Timeliness of Care and Efficient Use of Medical Imaging.
