Florida Tech’s Ted Conway Named Fellow of American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Ted Conway, professor of biomedical engineering at Florida Tech, has been inducted into the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) College of Fellows, the institute announced Monday.

Election to the AIMBE College of Fellows is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to a medical and biological engineer.

The College of Fellows is comprised of the top 2 percent of medical and biological engineers.

College membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to “engineering and medicine research, practice, or education” and to “the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of medical and biological engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to bioengineering education,” according to AIMBE.

Conway was nominated, reviewed and elected by peers and members of the College of Fellows for his “outstanding accomplishments in supporting opportunities for individuals with disabilities through engineering research and design and advancement of biomedical engineering (BME) education.”

Conway came to Florida Tech in 2014 after serving as a program director at the National Science Foundation. His areas of research include biomedical imaging, biomechanics, rehabilitative engineering, and viscoelastic and viscoplastic mechanics.

Conway joins a class of 156 new members of the AIMBE College of Fellows, all recognized for their distinguished and continuing achievements in medical and biological engineering.

AIMBE Fellows are among the most distinguished medical and biological engineers including 3 Nobel Prize laureates, 18 Fellows having received the Presidential Medal of Science and/or Technology and Innovation, and 173 also inducted to the National Academy of Engineering, 83 inducted to the National Academy of Medicine and 36 inducted to the National Academy of Sciences.
