BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Solaris Senior Living Merritt Island resident Areti Jordan was delighted with a fully renovated courtyard at her community.

“There are large flower beds, new benches, and a colorful rock garden,” said Areti Jordan, Resident Committee President.

“Volunteers converted our back courtyard into a beautiful, serene spot. The folks at Keller Williams Space Coast poured so much heart, and effort, into surprising us. All the residents painted clay pots and garden rocks, as Keller Williams wanted resident artwork showcased in the new courtyard.”

Jordan is a two-year resident at the 85-apartment Independent and Assisted Living community, which is located at 535 Crockett Boulevard on Merritt Island.

With Emily Merbitz at the helm, Keller Williams Realty Space Coast approached Solaris Senior Living Merritt Island about the volunteer project back in February.

Merbitz and her team wanted to create something special for senior citizens right here in Central Brevard.

Globally, Keller Williams holds an annual day of service each May. It is known as “RED Day,” which stands for Renew, Energize and Donate.

This year, Merbitz and her team spent a day pouring mulch, planting flowers, assembling benches, and building flower beds for Solaris residents.

Their team worked in shifts, teams of nine, with masks and safe distancing, and within three hours, they had transformed a basic courtyard into a beautiful retreat.

“The Keller Williams team even prepared personal greeting cards for every resident,” said Shawn Corley, Solaris Senior Living Administrator.

“Solaris Senior Living Merritt Island cannot thank the team at Keller Williams Space Coast enough for lifting up the spirits of our residents and staff. The Keller Williams team dedicated their time and talent to give back to those in the community they serve. We are so grateful for their generosity.”

Three local businesses fueled the hard-working Keller Williams agents with donated coffee, juice, snacks and bagels. Embrace Home Loans, Star Title Cocoa Beach, and Coapstick Financial Group personally delivered the refreshments.

Resident Berta Petrie loved the results of Keller Williams’ team efforts.

“I was so surprised to receive a lovely hand-written card from the folks at Keller Williams. And then, to see a relaxing courtyard full of flowers, was just wonderful”, Petrie said.
