Teacher-turned-astronaut Joe Acaba has logged a total of 306 days in space on three flights

(NASA) – It’s Teacher Appreciation Week and teachers and space travel go hand-in-hand.

Teacher-turned-astronaut Joe Acaba taught one year of high school science at Melbourne High School, Florida, and four years of middle school math and science at Dunnellon Middle School, Florida.

As an astronaut, Acaba has logged a total of 306 days in space on three flights, first as a mission specialist on the Space Shuttle Discovery STS-119 mission and twice aboard the International Space Station.
