BREVARD COUNTY, MELBOURNE • FLORIDA – The Florida Tech men’s basketball team picked up its second signee for the 2020-21 season in Jacob Crockett, a dual-sport athlete out of the state of Georgia.

A 6-foot-4-inch, 175-pound athlete who plays both guard and forward, Crockett helped guide the Wilkinson County basketball team to a 20-10 record in 2019-20.

He averaged 18 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals per game during his senior season, while making an impressive 60% of his shots, including 45% from beyond the arc and 75% at the charity stripe.

His season-long performance guided the Warriors to the Elite 8 of the 2020 Georgia State Basketball Tournament.

“Florida Tech is one of the premier academic programs in the southeast,” said Crockett. “I believe the coaching and environment at Florida Tech will greatly help me take my game to a whole new level.”

Crockett, a native of Irwinton, Georgia, hauled in numerous awards during his scholastic basketball career.

He was three-time selection to the All-Region, All-Area and All-State teams in Georgia while leading the Warrior to a pair of regional championships as well as a state championship his sophomore season.

“Jacob brings a very high level of athleticism to our program,” said head coach Billy Mims.

“With a vertical jump measured in excess of 40 inches, he’s a high flying, exciting player sure to get our fans on their feet! Offensively, Jacob knocked down 75 threes last season which brings us added perimeter firepower. Defensively he is a shot blocker and rim protector.

“I love the enthusiasm he plays with and the energy that he brings to the court.”

In addition to his success on the hardwood, Crockett was a decorated athlete on the gridiron.

As a member of the Wilkinson football team, he earned All-American honors and participated in the prestigious Georgia vs. Florida All-Star Game.

Crockett was also named All-Region and All-Area three times during his football career while also earning All-State honors twice.

“I hope to bring a positive, hard-working attitude toward the coaching staff and team,” Crockett stated.

“I also look forward to bringing an elite level of athleticism, explosive offense, and excitement for the fans.”
