BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Late Thursday afternoon, we were notified that attendees at graduation ceremonies held at Palm Bay Magnet High School and Brevard Virtual School this past weekend tested positive for coronavirus.

These confirmed cases are in addition to the notification received by Bayside High earlier this week.

As is standard procedure, BPS does not discuss the health matters of our students or families as it would be a violation of HIPAA policy.

Upon confirming these cases with the Brevard County Department of Health, we began the process of notifying those families who attended each of the ceremonies. The DOH has asked all attendees at these events to quarantine for the standard 14-day period.

Our schools put strategies in place to keep everyone healthy.

The district issued specific protocols to all graduates and their families in advance which included the requirement of face coverings for all students, staff and guests; temperature checks of all graduates; social distancing of graduates and guests; and a clear directive to anyone showing signs of illness, fever, those who traveled internationally or from the New York Tri-State Area within 14 days of the event, or had been in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19, to stay home.

A link to district protocols can be found HERE.

Brevard Public Schools is committed to maintaining transparency and communication with our families, students, staff and community as we move through the COVID-19 pandemic.

We wish these individuals a quick and full recovery.
