BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Daniel Bennett Group will present a Live-Stream concert on Aug. 7 at 6 p.m. at the Foosaner Art Museum as part of the ‘First Friday’ Jazz Series.
The Foosaner Art Museum is located at 1463 Highland Avenue in Melbourne.
New York saxophonist Daniel Bennett has been hailed as one of the most original and unpredictable musical voices of his generation and can be heard throughout the world performing his award-winning compositions on saxophone, flute and clarinet.
The show will stream on the museum’s Facebook page as the group is celebrating the release of their new album, ‘We Are the Orchestra.’
The Boston Globe describes the music as “a mix of jazz, folk, and minimalism.”
The album features music from ‘Whitman at the Whitney,’ a theater production Daniel Bennett orchestrated at the Whitney Museum in New York. Daniel Bennett is joined by Koko Bermejo on percussion and keyboard. The band played recent album release concerts at the Blue Note in New York and Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London.
The Daniel Bennett Group has been featured in the Washington Post, Boston Globe, NPR, San Francisco Examiner, Miami Herald, and the Village Voice.
The trio was recently voted “Best New Jazz Group” in Hot House Magazine. The Village Voice raves, “saxophonist Daniel Bennett makes hay with an airy approach that’s buoyant enough to conjure notions of East African guitar riffs and Steve Reich’s pastoral repetition.”
Bennett recently toured Italy and Switzerland with the renowned Armenian jazz ensemble, Musaner.
In addition to leading his own band, Bennett performs in theater productions in New York City. and recently composed the musical score for stage adaptations of ‘Frankenstein’ and ‘Brave Smiles’ at the Hudson Guild Theatre.
Bennett played woodwinds in ‘Blank! The Musical,’ the first improvised musical to launch on a national stage. The New York Times called the show, “Witty, Likable and Ludicrous!” His theatrical works have strongly influenced his eclectic sound and musical storytelling abilities as a bandleader.
