Jeb Carty is no stranger to crazy viral videos. In his latest viral video, Jeb decided he “wanted to make the most epic quarantine video on the internet.” In an exclusive with Jeb Carty, we got a behind the scenes look at how it all went down.

How did Jeb come up with the idea? As he explains it, “I thought about what no one had really done, 90% of the top YouTubers live in LA so I started to think “What’s awesome that you can’t shoot in LA?” Always one for innovating, Jeb Carty born 10/16/1991 has been spending the quarantine period at his family ranch.

To help create some positivity around everything going on, Jeb explains that “ the original idea was to “surprise a friend you haven’t seen in a while” seeing that it had been a minute since everyone had seen their friends. The idea was to surprise my friend Bam Margera by dumping water balloons on his house from a helicopter.

Now you might think, why on earth would a helicopter company agree to this. Wouldn’t they be nuts to do it with all the liability issues? Well, you wouldn’t be wrong to think that, however, Jeb found a way to make it work.

“When I contacted the helicopter company (that I used to fly within high school) about the idea I thought there was like a 1% chance they would be up for it. So when they said yes, it was a done deal.

They were down, except per FAA regulations we couldn’t cause “property damage” so we opted for a better idea. I decided to have the world’s wildest water balloon fight”. So with some quick-footed thinking Jeb was able to create a crazy viral video that had never been done before with keeping within FAA regulations too!

Jeb went on to explain the motivations behind the video and how it worked, ”I really wanted to portray a nostalgia that hadn’t been painted yet.

The idea of elevating a kid-like idea in a picturesque horse field, to bringing in some real firepower was what came to mind.” In terms of the shoot day we wanted to know what it actually took to put on such a grand event.

Jeb told us that it took quite a bit of time to coordinate everything, from getting the helicopter booked to deciding dates and more for everything else.

But all in all Jeb says, “The shoot was a lot of fun and everyone in the surrounding areas came out to see what was going on. We had a great turnout, Bam Margera, his family including Nikki Margera and their Son Phoenix came out as well as fellow YouTuber ZackGoes, as well as my very good friend and musical virtuoso Mike Nappi.”

The Cartyland Ranch, the property where the video took place, is a 91 acre property outside of Philly. It’s also the site of the Carty Party music festivals. Jeb is also no stranger to landing and flying helicopters there, “I had landed helicopters several times at the ranch when I flew in high school, it always attracted a ton of attention from the neighbors.”

All in all, Jeb says that “the shoot was insane. It was wild to simultaneously have people throwing water balloons out of a helicopter, on the ground, all the while having dirt bikers jumping over cars.

It felt like a true nostalgic performance and it’s something I’d definitely do again.”
