Melbourne Police Officers Respond to Attempted Home Invasion Robbery with Shots Fired Wednesday Morning

Melbourne police officers responded Wednesday morning at about 6 a.m. to 1570 White Cap Way to a report of an attempted home invasion robbery with shots fired.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — Melbourne police officers responded Wednesday morning at about 6 a.m. to 1570 White Cap Way to a report of an attempted home invasion robbery with shots fired.

According to the Melbourne Police Sgt. John Chapman, residents told the officers that there was a suspicious vehicle parked in front of their home.

“The residents advised they saw two male subjects approaching the house armed with a firearm,” said Sgt. Chapman.

“The resident in fear for his safety stated he armed himself, opened his front door and utilized his own firearm to scare the suspects, shooting several rounds into the ground and in the direction of the vehicle.”

According to Sgt. Chapman, the residents said the suspects then fled from the scene in their vehicle.

Melbourne police detectives are currently reviewing evidence in an attempt to identify the suspects.

An area canvass was conducted for any additional locations of impacts from the discharged firearm and there is no indication anyone was shot during the incident or projectiles from the firearm struck any of the surrounding homes.
