Eastern Florida State Golf in 9th Place After First Round of Space Coast Collegiate Championships

Titans will tee off in round 2 of the tournament Monday

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College men’s golf team competed against four-year schools in the first round of the Space Coast Collegiate Championships Sunday at Duran Golf Club in Viera.

The Titans are tied for ninth after the first round of the 15-team tournament featuring some of the best NCAA Division II teams in the country. Eastern Florida State College shot a 301 and is tied with Embry-Riddle.

Lynn University shot an even-par 288 round on Sunday and leads Wingate University by four strokes and Keiser University by six headings to the second round.

Freshman Brandon Boncore is tied for ninth overall, shooting 1-over 73 on Sunday while teammate John Houchin shot a 75 and is tied for 31st. Drew Lanier shot a 76, Matt Gauntlett finished with a 77 and Ryan McMillan had a 79.

“We just didn’t play well,” Eastern Florida State College men’s golf coach Jamie Howell said. “We need to clean up basic shots and be sharper with our all-around game.”

The Titans will tee off in round 2 of the tournament Monday at 11:15 a.m.
